In 1790, John Turnbull started business as a cabinet maker and undertaker on the quayside at North Shields. Three centuries later, Turnbulls is still a family firm, owned and run by John's descendants. Following a fire, the business moved into Town.

In 1907, Turnbulls brought the first motor car to North Shields, - A Vauxhall. Naturally, there was a liveried Chauffeur.

As business expanded and the motor car replaced the horse, Turnbulls had a growing fleet of vehicles, including, in 1949, a number of Rolls Royce limousines, which take: pride of

place in the 1949 photograph below.
These photographs only tell a very small part of a continuing story. It's a story of a family business  that has built up an unrivalled local reputation, a deep seam of experience and an understanding of the needs of clients. The trappings and ideas may change as the years go on, but the basic truths of care and consideration remain unchanged and deeply embedded in the Turnbull tradition of service and excellence.
